DuraBlue and DuraNitre Traditional-style Finishes
I love artistic finishes or well-executed camo finishes, duotone finishes with colors that compliment each other . . . . after all, finishes are what we do.
But above all, I like traditional firearms in traditional finishes; parkerizing, color case hardening, browning, and of course highly polished, deep bluing or peacock-bright nitre bluing. But nitre bluing provides no protection against rust and fades over time, while traditional bluing is expensive and prone to rust. Some firearms, like the Winchester 94s from the 1960s and 70s won’t take a blue on the receiver once rusted or scratched deeply.
The new DuraBlue and DuraBlue Nitre have all the advantages of a super durable coating – rust protection, ease of application, extensive polishing of the surface is not required – yet the traditional looks of deeply polished bluing or a bright nitre blue. The finish has depth, like a traditional bluing and has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
The correct application process is crucial when using these products as applying it using the same techniques as normal finishes will not yield the proper results. We have experimented and practiced and can truly say that with the right surface, we can apply a finish that will (and has) fooled very critical traditionalists. We were very skeptical of this product when we first heard about it, but are now believers.

Before: A stock parkerized 1911 was degreased given wood grips, and coated with DuraBlue and DuraBlue Nitre.
After: DuraBlue polished black over parkerizing, DuraBlue Nitre on small parts.
Before: This Winchester Model 94 can’t be reblued due to the sintered metal receiver.
After: Rust removed and DuraBlue applied to all metal parts, and the plastic buttplate.
